THE CRANBERRIES & BUTLER YEATS

Butler Yeats (1865-1939), uno de los mayores escritores irlandeses del siglo XX. En esta canción, aparte de su talento literario, The Cranberries se centran en el aspecto humano de este premio Nobel irlandés, sobre todo cuando incluyen diferentes referencias a su particular historia de amor con Maud Gonne, una bella actriz pero también una reconocida activista política que le puso en contacto con el Movimiento Nacionalista Irlandés al que ella misma pertenecía. Como resultado de esta relación, Yeats se vio involucrado en la lucha por la independencia del país, especialmente en la rebelión conocida como Easter Rising de 1916, cuando los nacionalistas irlandeses se enfrentaron sin éxito a los británicos que ocupaban el país.
Según la historia oficial, Yeats estaba desesperadamente enamorado de esta actriz, quien siempre rechazó sus propuestas de matrimonio y prefirió casarse con el Mayor John Macbride, uno de los líderes de aquel levantamiento nacionalista ejecutado tras los disturbios.
